    Question on carbs

    OK, I got an M10, a 316 1987 carbed engine.

The point is that My carb is doing odd things with vacuum, it tends to fall down slowly back to idle when i rev it, I have been thinking of getting a new carb (or a better one, PO cracked one of the float bowls and it and it's patched with epoxy), But there are lots of electrical connections to the carb.

Could i replace the carb with another brand, such as Weber without too many mods ?

If i disconnected all the wires going to the carb, will the car start ?

If i disconnect said wires, would i have to bridge some of those connections for the car to run OK ?

Sorry for the ignorance, but I've never seen so many wires and hoses going into a carburator.:(

Threre is a completely non electronic weber model designed to replace original Pierburg 2e carburator, I have no idea if it's available your whereabouts. If you don't have to deal with emission control you can replace the carb with older e21/02 model, but youl need a complete package, since intake manifolds are way different-
    Current:

    BMW 320i 2d 2.0 m20 -88
    BMW 325i Cabriolet 2.5 m50 -88
    BMW 316i touring 1.6 m40 -90
    BMW 320i 4d 2,2 m54 -01

a weber 32/36 progressive carb would be a nice upgrade for your 316. it's a bolt on if you use a dual port 2002 manifold. great responce, power, and reliability.
