Making power on stock diff

    Making power on stock diff

    So to you guys that are making some power from the 318 what can the stock diff take? im working on a high hp, high rev FI project. about 250 or so. will the diff pretty much shred. i know i should upgrade the diff but im a cheap sob and i know theres somebody out there that has tried to put power through the stock diff so, what can it take?
    im talking about the m10 85 version of the 318
    I don't think your mom appreciates the value of those modifications

    A BMW small diff in GOOD condition should be reliable into the low 300's and usable into the high 300's.

    At 250 you can run one all day long in track conditions!

      thanks. i had given up on this thread my diff i think is pretty bad, been leaking for what looks to be....years

        Break it first then replace it with the larger case.

          yep. thats the plan. in the process of cleaning it up now I removed about 2 lbs of dirt and grime whats the best way to really get this sucker clean?

            sweat & Tears...:nice:


            I used that Castrol heavy duty cleaner, forgot it's name.
            So after knocking off the chunky stuff I sprayed it on , waited (beer time) cleaned it off with hose...
            lather - rinse - repeat as needed
            I used lots of beer, had zero sweat and teared up at the end 'cause it looked so good :-D
