    Starter motor green/black wire?

    So it seems like my starter motor is on its way out, on cold days when I turn the key I hear nothing but the click of the solenoid popping out. Ive been doing the old trick of giving the starter a few love taps to get it going so I can get to work this week but I know this isnt a long term strategy. Last time when performing my "love taps" I accidentally broke the green and black wire attached to the starter motor. The car was able to start up fine with the connection broken, I was just wondering what is this wire for? is it a ground? is it necessary for it to be connected or can I drive for a little bit without it while I wait for my new starter to show up in the mail and can re-splice the wire when Im installing the new one. Thanks!

    The wire is for the unloader relays, K5 and K7. This means that when you start the car the power windows, heat/ac, aux fan, and a few other things will continue to function. You might have slow cranking, but I think that's about the extent of it.

    If the wire grounds on something (i.e., while you are driving the car) you won't have power to anything on those circuits.

      Thanks! ill definitely cap it if im not able to splice it soon. Am i alright to keep driving for now with it terminated like that?

        should be just fine. Don't be surprised if your heat/ac or windows work intermittently if you leave it bare, it could ground when going over bumps, etc. Otherwise no problem.
