m50 fan clutch in an m20?

Anyone ever done this? I am getting an e30 on the road that sat for 10 years so I just did water pump//timing belt, and when I had the fan clutch out I noticed it seemed to spin too freely. I have an almost new m50 fan clutch I grabbed at a junk yard, and it fits on the water pump + clearance looks good.

Can't see why there would be any problems running it, but I figured I'd check with others...

The later fan clutches are designed to work with higher temp systems so it would come in late.

m20s are designed to run at 80c.

just for the record, the m50 fan looks like it will fit but it is too large in width for the radiator to slide into the engine bay with it mounted to the water pump.
