E46 CF Air plenum with Dbilas ITBs

So here's the issue: the damn thing does not fit!

    Pics with ITBs:

The problem I'm running into is that it hits starter and alternator.

DSP rules allow alternate units for the above two.
    Any ideas?
Are there smaller starter and alternator that will fit M20?

I would space it out farther from the head to clear starter and alternator, but that will cause interference with vertical frame rail inside of strut tower.

    Thanks.

what about changing where the alternator is and using a different belt?

Bring it down to NJ and lets see if it will fit on my m30, I will then solve your problem.

You will probably have to skip on or modify the plenum.
I'm Not Right in the Head | Random Rants and other Nonsense1st Order Logic Failure: Association fallacy, this type of fallacy can be expressed as (∃xS : φ(x)) → (∀xS : φ(x)), meaning "if there exists any x in the set S so that a property φ is true for x, then for all x in S the property φ must be true".

Do you have the large starter on your car or the small starter (gear reduction)? Pretty much all the alternators are the same physical size. If you are racing only, you could make somthing from a Jap car fit, though. Or, you could go total loss electrical system.

Would you elaborate on "small starter"? Was there a BMW it came on? More info?

                Thanks.

This may be an option as far as using a smaller belt, which would bring the alternator closer to the block...

Many of the later M20s had a starter that was like 3.5 or so inches in diameter and pretty light. The earlier ones had an M30 sized giant-ass starter installed. I know my 86 has the big one, but not sure about the 90. If you post a pic I can tell you which it is. If you have the large and need the small, I might be able to hook you up, but I won't know until tomorrow or Sunday.

I am assuming you are running the car without A/C?

If so, it should be easy enough to relocate the alternator over to where the A/C compressor was located at... (not sure if that is allowable per rule book however)

                          ;)
