My recently acquired '89 325is came with a rebuilt driveshaft, fresh CSB and guibo and a metallic banging noise while in gear from the rear part of the transmission. It also also has a pretty noticeable vibration from the trans between 2-3K RPM under acceleration. Mounts are new, shifter, linkage etc are all new.
The driveshaft doesn't have any wiggle near the output shaft bearing. When I rotate it by hand with the car on jack stands I get the same metallic sound from inside the case at lower volume so I'm pretty sure something is loose inside there.
Does anybody familiar with Getrag 260 know what this noise could be?
