Timing belt? car has been sitting

i changed the timing belt a year and a half ago on my 89 325i. the car has sat since then and i am now going to move it into my garage which is about 20 miles away. should it be alright? i know your supposed to change it every 60k i think, just not sure about how fast it deteriorates while sitting.
Also, i want to get this engine freshened up. Where should i concentrate on? it has 290k on it but seems to run pretty well. just want to get it really clean inside and out. then work on the body.
    all suggestions greatly appreciated
    cheers guys!

You'll make it 20 miles just don't get to crazy.

I would just stick my fingers behind the timing belt cover and make sure the belt was tight before I cranked it over. It's more than likely fine, but you're better safe than sorry.

To make you feel better, I actually just picked up an e30 that literally sat for 10 years. I was stupid and cranked it over without changing the timing belt first, but it started right up (after swapping fuel pumps) with a 10 year old timing belt. I even drove it .7 miles down the road about 15 mph. Then, I immediately changed the timing belt and it seems much happier. :)
