What is this?!

Putting my first e30 (1990 325i) back together and I have no idea where this goes or what it is. I bought it all apart so dont bust my balls about not bagging and tagging it all. LOL! The head was removed when I bought it so it goes under the hood, somewhere down to the head tear off. I have figured out where all the other stuff goes except this. Please help!! Thanks!!

that is your timing belt tensioner spring, search on realoem.com to see where exactly it goes

Ummm, yea, I have 4, VW mk1/2/3 and vanagon. I just got this car cheap and allready dumped a buch more money into it so that will have to wait for now. The car came with a haynes and a chilton but we all know how useful they are!

It goes between your water pump and the timing belt tensioner. Very important piece!!

Found it in the chilton......not a very good picture but I am headed to the junkyard now so hopefull it is still there and I can get a good look at it. I need a dowel pin for the head.
