    Low, Rich Idle

    I have a 1988 325iX that I just replaced the intake manifold gasket on. Ever since I have done this, my idle has been close to 600rpm, my CE light has come on, and I have been plagued with overheating at idle problems. I convinced myself that there are no intake leaks with a bottle of carb cleaner but I cannot figure this out. I checked the voltage to the ICV and found it was only 6.7V. My haynes manual says it should be close to 10V at idle. Could this be my problem? (I cleaned the ICV and watched it open to about half way when plugged in, so I know it works)
    Also, I seem to be running rich now. Is there any way to check my O2 sensor? Or would there be another reason that I am running rich?

    Just an update. I have replaced my O2 sensor and my coolant temperature sensor with no change in the idle speed. My fan clutch was bad, so when I replaced it, the overheating problem went away, but I still have a low, rich idle. Is there a method to cleaning the MAF sensor? I figure I'll take it apart and clean everything. Any ideas? Thanks,

      I have the same issues. I am investigating tomorrow, I'll let you know what I come up with

        Me three, I want to test the "throttle Position switch". My car has no "choke idle". 500rpm cold. 750 warm.
        Car runs fine. Just a low idle when cold.

          any of you guys have any luck with this? I am currently experiencing similar problems (though, not a huge issue).

          I idle rich at 500. Once I sputter past 1000 under medium accel. She clears up and works fine.

          I plan on performing a hot valve job this weekend. I'll peek around at some of the sensors, too and clean as I see necessary.

            I am just living with the problem. I cleaned my MAF sensor and ensured there are no vacuum leaks again, but still have an extremely rich idle. The car drives good (can leave 4 strips of rubber on the road), but at every light I can smell the rich idle. Not sure where to go from here. I may be making the switch to a MegaSquirt so at that point I could adjust. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks,
