    eta wont shut up

so i recently added a magnaflow to my car, and ive been noticing how damn loud my eta motor is. it ticks like a bunch of dolphins! now i know the lifters are in spec because i just did them like 2000 ago, is there something else i need to adjust? the ticking sounds like its coming from the valvetrain, but i cant tell from what.

I'd try adjusting the valves again. Or if you have a small exhaust leak that make an annoying ticking noise.

When you adjusted your valves, did you do it hot or cold? Do it cold.

While this is actually true to a point, they should make a quiet tick. I.E. if you can hear it from inside the car with the hood closed and windows up it's too loud. lol

If you listen very very closely with your ear right near the valve cover (or better yet use a a stethoscope) you can differentiate the sound of the injectors and the rocker/valve slapping.

My valves are being loud as hell :( so I'm going to adjust them today.

Edit: Just got done adjusting them, still a little more tick that I was hoping for but it's about where it is on most e30s I hear.

Actually I think it's just the intake rocker on cyl. 5 making most of the noise as I couldn't quite get this one as tight as I would of liked it but it's close.

I had a super loud ticking on my old ETA and it was the timing adjuster not being set right. Eventually it broke and destroyed the head, gotta love warranty work!

Just switched to 20w50 gtx from 10w40. Also added lucas stabilizer. It might be quieting the valves a little but theyre all within spec now anyway. My car feels a little more sluggish with this thick of oil in it so I'll probably be going to 20w50 with no lucas crap, or 15w40 soon.
