I recently acquired a 1988 325is from an auction. It appears to have sat for about 6 months and was then towed for illegal parking. I managed to drive the car home after having the battery jumped. My friend drove it around my neighborhood, and in doing so he did a little tire-chirping launch that resulted in a massive leak of coolant about 50 yards later.
I have traced the leak to the radiator, right in front of the fan and a few inches above th bottom. I can watch the coolant pour out, so I know exactly where it is.
Does this seem like the victim of broken motor mounts, and the fan blade cutting the radiator? I would think that if the rad failed just from general deterioration and having sat so long, it would have done so near the end tanks.
Any other possibilities I should consider?
I am replacing the radiator next week, but now i figure i should start pricing some motor mounts in case they appear bad also.
