Just bought an M30b25 motor...did I get a good deal?

not bad for 90 bucks. What do I do with it? I'm picking up a 325e this week. Should I swap heads and shave pistons for a 327i? Should I freshen up the b25 motor and just swap it in? I'm pretty new to the game, but not new to modding cars. I'm leaning towards just swapping in the I motor and calling it a day. Do you guys see anything else I would need besides and ECU for a swap? I just could not bear revving the b27 to only 4750 rpm :(. Something with the motor had to be done.

assumeing the wireing harness is complete and the motor is too the ecu should be the only other thing you need to swap in the i motor, i would say that would be the simplest and cheapest route as opposed to building a 2.7i, really unless your planning on boosting theres not much advantage to swaping in a 2.7 crank into an i motor. and nice to see a local on here, if you need any help just ask.

Thanks man. As far at they know the harness is complete. Will a 325e oil pan swap over?

Hopefully I can find a chipped ecu.

if would probably be easier for you to find the ecu separately from the chip.

and go mark d if you get one.:D

I just bought a mark d chip too for the 325e motor =(. I'm sure someone on the board will want it. Should I go with a 93oct chip for 19# injectors?

            Yeah, ecus seem pretty available.

Since I just did this exact thing Here are some of the pit falls I ran into:
                86 eta swapped out with a 90 I motor
Needed an updated wiring harnes for that 90 motor
bought a 173 ECU for upgradability
eta motor didnt have an Oil cooler so I had to buy one of those
Changed out all the intermediate maintenance items on the I motor, new cap, rotor, needed I motor wires cuz of that little sensor wire, new timing belt and water pump.
Needed a mish mash of hoses cuz the early modle eta cooling system is diff from the late model I cooling system. The Water pump is actually the eta version with a couple of i hoses mixed in.
I should have done a lot more to the tranny side of things but since the clutch had just been replaced before I bought the car I left it as is. The flywheel and clutch are out of the eta as well.
I motor throttle bodies and I afm and air box
New I motor starter, alternator (this was due to ground wire issues, too long of a story to get into here) and disconnected the power steering pump and AC.

                Things I still need:
Two error codes I need to fix are the speed sensor, and the tach not working which I dont understand. The Tach SHOULD be working but its not.
Need a late model motometer cluster with the higher rev counter and a new switch/plug for my cluster but I have yet to pull it apart to find out which one it takes. :(
Even passed smog like a champ with the check engine light on... Go figure.

For what its worth here are some shitty pics after I got it all said and done.

Sooooo much left to dooooo.... gotta get rid of that dammed ricer tail soon!

I think you got a hell of a deal!! I paid $200 just for an 'i' head and had to drive 7 hours to pick it up. That thing comes with all the accessories, wire harness, looks to have most the cooling hoses. Good buy!

Yeha shouldnt be a problem, I didnt hook mine up simply becuase I wanted to see what the car would be like w/o them and it drives fine. I'll be yanking them out of the bay when I get some more free time.
