idle problem

i just got a 325 and when you start it up it revs up to about 2k then back to 8-9 hundred and stays pretty steady, but after i drive it it will go up and down a few times. if i drive it a little longer and come to a stop in nutral or clutch depressed it idles at about 1300 rpm but very steady. i have service records all the way to 86 and the original owner took it to a bmw shop (under warranty) and complaind about a jump in rps when the clutch is depressed. i tryed cleaning the iacv but i didnt help. any ideas?

check the condition of hoses, and check for vacuum leaks.

my 84 eta had what seemed like an intermittent vacuum leak, I replaced the intake boot and iacv hose and all problems have vanished
