    i want an electric fan.

my fan clutch died again. that's the second time i replaced it.
noob: i was just wondering if people have and/or liked just having an electric fan. no mecahnincal fan and maybe no ac fan also?
there's a spal fan for the m20 on bimmerworld for like 80 bucks.
anyone have experience? and also thinking about an independent switch for it?

all the help will be greatly appreciated.

    thanks.

edit: btw. i havent had any overheating problems since i have replaced my radiator. and my water pump is still kinda new ish.

best modification to any car is a clean car.

bimmerworld spal here, deleted viscous fan and a/c. you'll need the spal mounts to mount it up to the stock aux fan locations and wire it in to the a/c switch. of course this was on a track car. YMMV

Be sure the fan is roughly 2.5" thick. You won't be able to fit one much thicker than that in there.

I bought a SPAL (becool) 16" thinline from JEGS which was 2300cfm for under $100. It worked great. Keep the a/c fan for insurance. It is designed to come on if the engine gets too hot to help cooling.
Only use a fan switch if you will remember every time to flip it. Otherwise I would suggest wiring it up to where it turns on whenever the key is turned. This way the fan is on when you start the car, then turns off when you kill the engine.

You can easily do a manual bypass on the stock A/C fan.

I used the foglight switch as I have no foglights, but any switch will do fine.

you can install a fan without touching the a/c fan. Meaning it will still operate as it should. There are many ways to wire up a fan. It's basically how you want it to turn on and off that determines the route you take.
