Can't get the CEL to display codes

I have pumped the gas pedal five times to the floor within a short period of time while the key is in the on position. Cannot get the CEL to flash the codes sequences. Any tips? Thanks.

What year car? The stomp test only works on cars with a 173 or later DME (introduced on 325i/is cars in 9/87). For the stomp test to work, both the idle and WOT switches in the TPS must operate. A bad on mis-adjusted TPS will prevent the test from working.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

My tps is bad and I have to do the stomp test 5-7 times before I can get it to work.

you were right, after changing the tps, the test works easily, and i thought i was getting the 5 stomps timing wrong
