im sure you've all checked but just in case you havent, make sure there are no exhaust leaks before the O2 sensor. if there are it could be giving bad readings and causing havoc. this was one of the problems with mine. i just read all 5 pages of this thread and saw a lot of similar problems that i had/am still having. saw some good ideas and will be trying them soon and keeping up on this thread with updates as well.

ive been having these problems for about 2 months and i keep seeing more and more people with similar problems. this is getting rediculous. i just wanna drive me e30 how its suppose to be driven :'(

i've had/still am having similar problems to you guys as well. i just read all 5 pages and read some good ideas. also thought id throw one of mine that hasnt been mentioned yet. make sure theres no leaky in the exhaust before the O2 sensor. if there are any, it can give the sensor bad readings and cause havoc to errything. when i put a new nonleaking exhaust in (which old one was leaking prior to O2 sensor) it helped significantly. didnt completely fix it, but it did run much better then before.

everytime im on r3v i just see more and more people with all these similar issues. this is getting ridiculous. i just wanna drive me e30 how is suppose to be driven :'( worst part for me is that i bought it this way lol. havent driven it with a healthy motor yet.

ill be keeping an eye on this thread and also post updates with info i find as well. hope we can figure this crap out so we can all go back to living our lives sane :)

whoa someone is having posting issues!!!

Back on topic, my friend Sam has pretty much delegated his E30 to project status, and put his old Saab back on the road. It gives me a terrible feeling when you can't drive an E30 because of engine problems, and have to turn to Saab.

Even so, our current path is to do the M50 swap. But i am still curious if anyone else in this thread fixes their problem.

I am 90% sure the cause of these weird misfire problems is the crankshaft position sensor. Mine is doing the same exact thing and I replaced the 02 as well as checked every sensor, connection, ground, cap/rotor/plugs and everything points to the crankshaft position sensor.

holy bejesus. apparently my computer was having a seizure. many apologies gents.

also check and make sure the cable from the engine bay to the O2 sensor isnt destroyed.

                        part #13 on this link

mine was all melty gooey goodness after (my guess) being up against the exhaust. this fubar'd everything and after i unplugged it to run open loop it ran 100% better.

sorry again about the mass post...it wasnt my fault...i swear.. :(

^I'm with this guy. I have the same problem and I have discovered that my vibration damper (thing that the sensor reads off of) is moving so much that it is hitting the water pump pulley. Pretty sure that the sensor is getting confused. I almost had it fixed today but I can't get the vibration damper to be secure. I'll update this thread when I figure it out.

Doesn't really matter if the sensor is within spec if the toothed wheel is not coming within proximity of it. There is a really small gap that needs to be maintained between the sensor and the wheel. If it is vibrating and not close enough the magnetic sensor in the CPS will not be activated and the injector will not fire. Good luck, hope this is the problem.
