BrakeBooster & Rack and Pinion Help?

I solve my not able to shift problem, but I don't have all the right tools to get it done and let alone the experiance too do it right. My local mechanic is charging me $750.00 for parts & labor (New parts) is this resonable or can some one here do it for a better price. Please advice, thanks!

My car was giving me problems with gears not engaging. Look below for more Info>>>

It's in socal, where the 22fwy and the 405 fwy meet (Springdale & Westminster). I need help on installing and buying them from the right place. This is my first time working with a E30 and I want to learn if possible. I rather spend the money on getting my car runing good, as I move along other areas of the car where specific tools will need to be bought then.

So in other words I need help from a Guru and his tools to get my E30 fix. I am in it for the long run on this project and any help from any of you
      will be compensated.

well I dont know how far Westminster is from Oxnard but is there a way you could get the car up to my area? I have the necissary tools needed to do most any job. You can find any part you need really right here on r3v.

whats the job youre doing? you say it cant shift, is it a clutch job, cause i cant see how brake boosted and rack and pinion have anything to do with shifting

Well Everytime I press on the clutch the brake booster moves in and out. I can't shift into any gear when the car is turn on! The car will only allow me to shift gears when it is turn off. I belive the brake-booster's is not getting any pressure from the clutch pedal, well at least that is my theory (your welcome to shime in on the subject). As far as the rack and pinion, that's just leaking bad and needs to be replace.

Well it sounds like your mechanic is trying ream you.

Either the clutch slave is dead or the master. Both are simple and not $750 dollars.

The brake booster has nothing to do with the clutch...

As stated above. When you turn the car on and push in the clutch does it stay really soft or fall to the floor?

If the brake booster is moving when you press on the clutch pedal, something is loose or broken. Start by checking the pedal box and the booster mounting nuts.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I'd found out that the clutch braket assembly is damage, unable to push the clutch far enough. Any one had this problem before? I heard that this is a common problem in these models.

Yes the clutch pedal is a bit loose but it does not go all the way to the floor.

A failure in the pedal box shouldn't cause the brake booster to move. For that to happen there would have to be a failure in the firewall or the booster would have to be loose. Go take another look at what's failed.

                              ******

                              Problem:
                              1. Clutch pedal braket is crack on one side
                              2. Fire wall has a split about 2 1/2 inches long

                              Solution:
                              1. Weld fire wall
                              2. Buy new clutch pedal braket (This is a common problem on these aged car's)

This is something too look at if you are having a similar problem with youre cars clutch or gears...
