Help! Something wet = poor acceleration???

Had this problem once before and now it just happened again.

It only happens when it pisses rain and I have to drive through large puddles on the road. All of a sudden I no longer get any acceleration when I press the gas, and then all of a sudden it will kick in and go. I stopped and put a water treatment in the gas tank and just drove around for the last 20 minutes but it doesnt seem to be helping. Engine cuts out occasionally.

What got wet underneath or sucked up into my car that would cause this?? Any way to fix besides waiting for it to dry out?

    Thanks!!

Sometimes when you drive through large puddles your alternator belt gets wet and slips. This would cause all of your electrical drain to run off your battery (drop in voltage). How violent are we talking? If it's off/on, you may have a connection that's shorting to ground.
    paint sucks

That would make me suspect the ignition wires. If the insulation is failing on those it takes very little water to rob the engine of spark. It not replaced recently, add a distributor cap and rotor when you get new ignition wires.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
