    AFM Help

I just picked up an 88 325i, all stock. The problem is that with the AFM plugged in, I can not start the car. It will never turn over even though it wants to. When I unplug it, the car starts right up but anything but extremely light acceleration will bog the car down to no power. Now using my most excellent powers of deduction, I am assuming the AFM is a bad unit and I need to replace it. What I would like to know is, could this be anything else. I am going to buy a Miller Maf/Chip kit but before I drop the coin, I kind of want to be sure that is the problem. I haven't had time yet, but I do have access to an 86 325e to swap good parts to check, is there any difference between the 2 parts?
