    Headgasket problems/questions/confessions

I finished doing head gasket job a few days ago and i fired up the car to find instant mixed oil and coolant, in less than a min. Before it had been a slow leak for a few years. I took the head off in the correct fashion but i went wrong with the torquing. I followed the correct order but i did 180degrees on the 2nd stage. Could this have warped the head? would this cause the gasket to not seat right causing the extreme instant leaking? Let me know your thoughts.

What is the best way to check for warpage?

ok it is off. i cant see visible cracking or warping. Does anyone know if me jacking up the torquing would cause this? I also had some oil/coolant coming out around the front exhaust manifold.

when it was leaking, did you test the block for cracks? how about hte head? Torquing it wrong will definitely cause warping. But mixing instantly? you would hav ea bigger problem. If you tested the head while it was out, I say the block is the likely cuprit.

could the bad torquing cause the gasket to seat or get messed up and cause the instant mixing?

not from direct experience, but personal opinion is no... I dont think that is the reason why it mixed.

I also don't think the over-torquing would cause this on a healthy head. I say healthy, because it's possible that the extra torque allowed a crack in the head to widen or become more apparent. Once the pressure is removed, then the crack goes back to normal or is interior to what you can visibly see on the head.

            Sorry for your woes.
