swapped m20 from 86 to 84, no spark or fuel

    swapped m20 from 86 to 84, no spark or fuel

    I just swapped everything and i mean everything from an 86 325e to a 84 325es. its not getting fuel or spark. last night i bought a test light and the ignition coil is getting a positive charge on the positive AND a positive charge where its supposed to be negative. took out my ECU and tested to see which holes in the plug gave a negative and which ones gave a positive. the test light i bought has 2 lights, RED for positive and GREEN for negative (ground obviously), on the one hole on the plug it was BRIGHT RED, and on the same hole we tested for a negative, the green light was on but fairly faint. wasnt bright but wasnt that dim.

    anyone have suggestions? its greatly appreciated. i have both of these cars in the 2 car garage at my house and the step dad is getting pissed because they're still there after a week. Thanks!

    No fuel and no spark means that the DME isn't getting power or a start signal, or that the DME isn't seeing timing data from a rotating engine. Start by checking for power to the DME (unswitched and switched) and whether a start signal is present when the ignition is on. If those conditions are satisfied, the timing reference sensors become the prime suspect.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        ECU is grounded. I had it laying on the floor before, not knowing it needed to be bolted up. It is now getting power when key is on and off. how do i check for a start signal?
