advice on cleaning shortblock before head install

    here's the situation:

    - head has been off for about 1 year
    - oil fouling spray sprayed on cylinder walls, pistons, head bolt holes, etc
    - covered with plastic/sheets
    - oil still in the pan
    - alot of sanding, sand blasting, cleaning, body work etc in the engine bay over the year
    - there is surely some media, dirt, grime and other crap that has made its way onto the shortblock
    - still need to clean the block mating surface, more potential crap falling into engine

what should i do to clean out the shortblock before installing the head? just spray brake cleaner everywhere + compressed air? im afraid that some particles have fallen into the oil feed passage and will be pumped straight into the head at first start up. i figure whatever has fallen down into the pan will get filtered before getting pumped into the engine.

    any advice?

you can maybe remove the pan drain bolt and flush the engine with clean oil or diesel fuel allowing all the crap to just drain out the bottom.

flush=pour oil or diesel all over exposed parts and oil passeges/galleys and them let it all drain out

will the crap flow back through the oil pump into the pan and out, or will it accumulate at the pump?

lol that wont work very well. motors shouldnt be left open and exposed to things that will hurt them like OP describes.
