    Surging idle...

Yesterday when starting my 1990 325i, I was getting some significant idle surge. Was low on fuel so I went to fill up with 93. What I found was that the idle will smooth out, upon a sharp close in throttle, the car almost stalls, then catches back up, and surges for w few seconds before smoothing out some. I plan to look for split vacuum hoses, but my car really doesn't have too many. My next thought is a failing ISV (or IRV depending on what you want to call it), but I don't want to drop $250 (dealer pricing) on a "maybe". Any thoughts? TIA

You could have a stick Idle Control Valve (ICV). Remove it and clean it with carb cleaner until it will move freely. Also check for intake leaks. Having a smoke test done is the best way to find intake leaks.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I just found the similar thread a few threads prior. Thanks.
