Dual Fuel Pump Cut Off Year

Can anyone confirm what year (or better yet, month/year) the dual fuel pump set up was changed to a single in-tank fuel pump? I have an 88 SETA (build date of 10/87) and I keep getting conflicting information.

My issue: On my way home from work on Tuesday I noticed a buzzing noise coming from the rear of my car, only audible when the windows were down. I had heard that the main pump in a dual pump setup will buzz to compensate for a failed in-tank pump. The noise I hear is coming from the right (passanger) side.
Yesterday morning I turned my car on and again I heard the buzz on the right hand side. Unfortunately, I also noticed a fuel leak under the engine so I left the car at home.
Later that day I replaced both fuel lines coming from the rear up to the H adaptor. Car did not making any buzzing noises last night when testing for a fuel leak. Fuel leak is now gone. When I was tracing the fuel lines from the tank and filter to the front I noticed that only the filter was there but didnt think to check anywhere else for a second pump. Where exactly would the pump be if it were a two pump set up?
I start the car up this morning and again no noise. I am about 10 minutes from work and I can hear the buzz again. During this whole time where the buzz is happening I am not getting any kind of weird idle. There doesnt appear to be a change in power (its an auto so I use that word lightly) so Im a bit confused on what could be the problem.
If I need to order a replacement pump I would need to know if I need a low-pressure in-tank or high-pressure in-tank. Any way to tell besides having to get under the car...at work?
I would REALLY appreciate an answer quickly. Thanks.

There would be a intank transfer pump and a external pump infront of the rear left wheel (Above the filter (Big round cylinder)).

I wasnt able to really see anything when I peaked above the fuel filter last night. Since I havent been able to find a real-life snapshot of the way the external fuel pump is installed I had my doubts.

Has anyone heard of the buzzing coming from the single in-tank pump? All my searches (from what I can recall) relate to the dual pump set up.

your car probably only has 1 pump if the filter is near the tank... on my early car with two pumps the filter is near the engine...and the high pressure pump is on the drivers side not passenger side.

This. Facct for early cars. Jean does not realize left rear wheel is on the drivers side. (LHD?)

Thanks for the help. I did find out I have the single in-tank pump.
I found a working complete assembly replacement and a simple 10 minute swap eliminated the buzzing sound. I dont believe the issue is with the pump itself though. When I pulled the original pump the strainer on the end was a mess. I have a feeling I have a bunch of crap/rust in my fuel tank. The replacement pump is in there now.
I'll clean out the original strainder and test the pump again. At least I now have a spare to carry in my trunk, just in case.
