    Nasty sound...

My engine has been making this sound off and on for quite some time now, and I'm fed up with it. I've tried listening for the noise, tried the ghetto stethescope (screwdriver) method, and I am unable to make any educated guess as to what it is. Anyone know what this is coming from or at least have a good guess to get me started eliminating it?

The noise I'm talking about is not the m20 tick that's so prevalent in the vid. I'm talking about the banshee-like squealing/??? Noise. If it's obvious and I look like an idiot, great. All the more easy to fix it.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give me here.

Edit: sorry for the shitty iPhone vid; it was all I had. But you can still hear the noise pretty clearly.

That sounds an awful lot like my alternator when I killed the bearings.

See I had started to think it wa the alternator. Damnnnn that's a lot more than a belt.

Take off each belt until it stops.

I just got rid of a bad fan clutch that sounded similar to that.

or it could be your water pump going bad, get a stethoscope and listen to that and the alternator...definately sounds like one of those

I just wanted to this, as I realized that I forgot to, so that it is searchable for the term alternator noise. A new alternator fixed this problem.
