Before you do that, check all your spark plugs, i had this problem today, weird sound, real slow, vibrating...

One of the plugs ahd fouled so it wouldnt fire so it was basically running on 5 cylinders, check yours as my plugs were three days old.

I broke a rocker a few months ago. Drove it for 2 months firing on 5 cylinders. Didnt hurt the motor as far as I can tell, just blew lots of smoke from the exhaust. replacing it isnt TOO much of a bitch.

well its $611 dollar with labor, headgasket kit, timing belt kit and a rocker arm. I have barely enogh to buy parts and my parents cant afford to help fix it. So im with out a car for a while.

Have you no tools or skills? That is not a tough fix, and is nowhere near $600.

You can do it with the head on...

Yup, leave the head on. Pull the timing belt, the cam sprocket, etc...it isn't tough.

timing belt and tensioner are only like $40 from BavAuto. I did mine the other night and it only took a couple hours. Probably would go even faster without shivering fingers in this damn NE autumn

also sounds like a bad/sticky AFM ? I unplugged mine once just to see how it would run and it ran about how you described your problem.
                            I'm no expert though.

****nevermind my post. missed the broken rocker part****

Yeah it should not be that hard. I did my timing belt and water pump when I first got my car, it took the better part of a weekend as it was the first thing I'd done engine-wise EVER, but it wasn't too bad. I tend to work slowly too.
                              paint sucks
