Oil switch from Petroleum to synthetic

My e30 has thrived off of petroleum since birth. I currently use Castrol GTX anti-sludge.. great oil. But i want the benefits of synthetic oil. Can i just flush the engine completely and then use synthetic. is this better?

No need to flush the engine. Just drain, change the filter, and fill with synth. But even when using synth oil in place of dyno, you need to still use the change interval for dyno oil. These engines run a bit dirtier than modern engines and need the shorter intervals to eliminate the contamination that builds up in the oil.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
