    eBay Chips...

    Do they work?

Looking at this one it SOUNDS legit, doesn't say it improves gas mileage or anything which usually scares me away lol.

I bought a chip on ebay and after acouple IMs back and forth, it turned out
he's a legit tuner, and on the forums.

Can't remember the ebay name though.

The facts are $150-$200 for a custom tailored chip is totally reasonable. Would you really want to put some cheapo Chinese clone of a who knows what fuel map into your car??? NOT ME.

that and also I dont like the fact that its an off the shel chip. Every motor is different. The motor they say they got 26+ horsepower out of could have been a brand new motor orthey could have been lying all together. I dont feel comfortable going that route when I know that every motor may react differently. Just do yourself a favor and save up for a legit tuner's chip like Mark D or Jim C. You will thank yourself later when your car is running like a top.

But honestly, I wont even go with one of their chips only because dyno time with a legit tuner really isnt crazy expensive. And th chip will be tuned to YOUR CAR not sme random ass car they brought in and slapped on the dyno. Every value will be set for your vehicle and yours only. This is the best route to go with. Thats what I did.

And FYI, the whole "26+hp" thing is VERY iffy. I have never seen a stock m20 beit a 2.5 or 2.7, make anything near 26hp even with a dyno tune. An off the shelf tune with NEVER get you that

Well I may try it anyway lol, it's not difficult to make a chip especially if you copied one. For $200 I'd just save a little more and get a complete MS stand alone.

I've been running an ebay chip on my 2.5 for about 20,000 miles, no problems.

I'd just get an ebay one and be done with it. I bought a Mark D chip and 19 lb injectors and felt no difference at all. Stock or ebay, IMO.

I bought an ebay "Dinan" chip for my E36 a while back. No problems at all.

Last week I bought another ebay "Dinan" chip for my son's eta and the thing almost caused a major accident on the highway. After about 50 miles of driving it would stall @ 3500rpm, I could restart but after doing that a few times it started to stall @ random engine speeds and became more difficult to restart. I contacted the seller and he's sending a new one. If this one does the same thing I'm asking for a refund and going for a genuine chip instead of a copy.

I think it's a gamble with the copied chips. For every guy burning them there has to be a few defective ones made.

I had an eBay chip for a while in my eta, all I noticed was a decrease in fuel economy. A local e36m3 owner ran one with much better results.
