    car died

the car started fine and i only got half way down the block. then the cd player turns off for a bit and turns back on. then the anti-lock light came on and my car just turned off. my car has had trouble turning on due to a old battery but it usually runs normally as long as it starts.

could it be because of the recent flood of rain when it was parked on the curb? what should i check?

That set of symptoms is consistent with low system voltage. That can be the result of a bad battery, a weak alternator, or a combination of those. If the battery is over five year old, or it fails a load test, replace it. Then have the alternator tested. In most cases a weak alternator will be the result of worn brushes, which can be replaced.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

It could be something as simple as your connections.
Check the main cables off the battery for loose or corroded connections.
