yea i brought it inside and tested it a room temp, and opened it very slowly, but got the same results as before.

im gonna test the air temp sensor in it, and if thats not the prob, im gonna drag the thing around the block to a guy i know that has his own shop, have him diagnose the problem for me, then drag it back to my apt and fix it. ive done this before when my TPS shit the bed, so we'll see what happens

Dude, did you ever try a different AFM? Zombie gave you a good suggestion, you tested it and it seemed like it was shot, but now you're moving on to a thousand other possibilities anyway? Borrow a damn working AFM!

sadly it wasnt the AFM, as i tested it several times to no avail

i ended up taking it to a small local BMW shop, and came to find out that i had a compression reading on cylinders 4 and 5 of over 240. we checked the rocker arm to see if it was intact, and it was, leaving us to believe that the headgasket blew between the cylinders, causing the crazy compression readings

thanks for the help guys, but this is the end of the road for this one. my bud wants the car, so im prob gonna help him make it into a track rat, time will tell ;)

            whoa...those are crazy compression readings.
I'm not convinced those readings would be caused by a blown head gasket though.....normal compression is around 170psi I believe.....
By my understanding, a blown gasket would give MORE space to fill with air, and thus LOWER compression. I'd think you have wicked deposits in those cylinders, unless the blown gasket allowed the head and block closer together.........well, damn.

            that sucks though.....
and good luck with the imminent build!
