    Vapor locked?

Hey guys, i've got an 89' ix and whenever i add gas or park it on an incline it has problems starting.
Its almost like its vapor locked. When it does this, it normally takes a few times trying to start it, but before it'll staying running and once you do get it running, you can smell gas. It really seems like its vapor locking, but i'm not sure why.

I've noticed that when i completely fill up the car with gas you get a strong smell of it for about 30 miles afterwords, which is strange because it looks like somebody put a newer tank in it.

Could it be that a vent line is kinked or routed wrong and its causing it to vapor lock the car after refilling/parking on inclines?

It certainly sounds like there's a gas leak somewhere. That might or might not be related to the hard starts. An easy diagnostic for a tank vent problem is to fill the car, and try starting it with the gas cap off. If the tank vent is messed up, that should allow the engine to start normally.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

well, jlevie, i tried your advice today on my way to work and it worked. So i guess that would mean i've got an issue with a vent line
