    K&N filters ok to use?

Ive heard story's of oil on the K&N filters getting sucked into the engine and gumming stuff up. Is this true, or are these filters fine? Should I stick with paper filters?

Put them in all the time no issues. If you follow proper instructions on oiling.

Oiled air filters are a problem on a car with an MAF as oil from the filter can contaminate the thin film anemometer in the MAF. An E30 uses a vane type air flow meter and thus isn't affected by oil from the filter.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

From what I understand, the issue is with the MAF sensor wire getting oil on it. And like ZM said, Just re-oil them properly when you do (follow instructions, dont go overboard on the oil etc. )

In the case of an M20, there is no MAF sensor to gunk up.
