Feel it's something simple! but what?

Okay so today I was leaving college and i was sitting at the stop light when my cars idle jumps up to 2,000 rpm. I checked to make sure the floor mat wasn't wedged up against the pedal or something stupid which it wasn't. I'm sittin there in the parking lot looking like an idiot revving my engine waiting for the light to turn so i burped the gas and it just went higher. then it went down to about 1,500 until the light turned green. Okay that was weird! later on i was headin to the gym when i cranked up my car put it in reverse it didn't want to run and dies on me. that was great so i tried to crank it up and it didn't want to start. it just turned over for awhile until it hit a little and sputtered. i tried again and still the same. finally on the 3rd attempt it fired up and i got parked again. i get out to check for a vacuum leak only to find nothing and it was idling fine. the rest of the day it has ran perfect. It has done this a couple of times recently but not to this extent. What do you guys think the prob. is? It is time for a tune up, but could that be the prob.? I don't have a check engine light tripping. Some help would be great

i've cleaned it before but it has been a couple of months. i wouldn't think it needs to be cleaned that often, but it could be taking a dump on me i might try to swap that out this weekend. any other suggestions?

I will definately do that this weekend. what are the odds that it just needs a good tune up. I haven't changed the O2 sensor since i have had the car.

Is the intake boot cracked or torn?

Very unlikely the o2 sensor would cause something like this.
