Im doing an engine swap on my 89 325is. while the tranny was off i wanted to put a lightweight flyweel on. Can anyone recommend a brand or if there is a better upgrade for me to spent my money on. think i might go with this brand http://www.jbracing.com/flywheel-bmw3.php

i got mine from IE, the bolts that came with it were to long and the ring it comes with seems to be a cheep soft material. in comparison to the stock ring. after talking with Jeremy at IE i was given the proper bolt size. other then that i am happy with the flywheel.

        Gee only $600.

Save $500 and take your stock flywheel to a machine shop (or get the 323i flywheel in the classifieds).

ok. do i have to buy a spacer or any kind of accessory if i get the stock one shaved down. how many pounds of steel can i expect to take off this flywheel without really affecting its strenght and longjevity

            No.

You can generally shave about 6lbs off of them if you've got a 325i, down to about 12lbs. People have gone above and beyond to shave it down to about 11lbs (shaving off the front, between the bell housing studs), but that's about it. Longevity is a non-issue.

Unless you are spending a good $5k on your motor I would not blow $600 on a flywheel.
