    m20 swap in 318is has fuel spark but maybe no air?

    i have a 91 318is with a m20 swap. has consistant fuel spark is good. noid light tellm s injectors are pulsing. starts for about 10 seconds then dies out.
    possible bad mass air flow? I'm stuped and I really need this thing running. any practical ideas?

      Without knowing your swap, it sounds to me like a fuel related issue. Either tied to a vacuum issue at the pressure regulator or in the electrical to the pump.

      Have you ran a stomp test to see what error codes you're throwing?

        m20b25. hot wired the pump so its consistantly on at a consistant fuel pressure. i'm guessing vacuum issuse as well and the fpr is replaced.

            why would you swap a m20 into a 318? just get a 325i, less work and maybe a lot cheaper. but that's just me

              bought the car in its current condition. just looking to get it to run. thanks for the opinion. I guess.

                I hadd an old nissan that did the same thing, turns out the exhaust was severely plugged up, unhook your down pipes and see if it stays running.

                Maybe, just an idea.

                  Now that you say the fuel pump had to be hotwired, I'm thinking crank reference sensor.

                    it doesn't have to be. I just did to see if that was the problem. so the cps could be the culprit? but it does crank.. maybe I am misunderstanding something.

                      If the engine fires, the CPS would be lower on my list of suspects than other possibilities. At the top of the list would be intake leaks, followed by fuel delivery. A smoke test of the intake is the diagnostic for intake leaks and a check of rail fuel pressure is the diagnostic for fuel delivery problems. Once those possibilities have been ruled other causes can be considered.
