    M10 to M20 engine swap

Has anyone attempted to do a M10-M20 engine swap? If so, how difficult is this. Do the engine mounts line up the same? What kind of wiring issues will I run into? I know I will need to do new front springs. What do you all know about this swap?

    Thanks

it can be done, getting an uncut M20 harness from a junkyard car isnt hard and the mount arms to indeed sit in the same spot as the M20 car

unrelated, what part of Minnesota are you in?

Apple Valley. I don't have a E30 yet but my budget will probably only allow me to get a 318 for starts and later will come the m20 swap. I am trying to figure if this swap is worth it or if I should just save my money to get a 325I. Where abouts are you in Minnesota?

the m10 to m20 swap is actually very simple. i just did mine a couple months ago. you need an early eta wiring harness unless you plan on swapping the c101. other than that its pretty much straight up swap. good luck

around here, 318is and 325is go for about the same money, but in answer to your question, it just depends what shows up. if you can get a cheap, nice 318, the yeah - go for it and grab a M20B25 later on but if you find a nice 325i with a shit interior or something, thats the better option

I am in Minnetonka, if you have questions or need a 2nd pair of eyes when looking at an E30 for sale, let me know.

+1 on that. good M20s are hard to get up here on the cheap, thats the only reason its not a perfect idea.

Nice to see some more local E30 lovers. Keep an eye out for my 87 Delphin Vert in a month or so here. I've got to get the seats finished up with the recovering, and put it all back together. It'll be riding low with plenty of dish.

Just hold out and find a 325, it'll save a ton of hassle. I looked for 8 months for a vert I liked, and ended up finding the one I have right in Apple Valley.
