Dirty Head (still wanna treat her with respect)

    hello,

My e30 320i has a dirty head. when i take the cover off the old oil has dried and started to flake. How do i clean it out. Can i just spray something or does the head have to be taken apart for a good cleaning.

Put the valve cover back on and change the oil and filter more often.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

If the heads is in that kind of condition, I'd say the rest of the motor may not be much better off. Try dumping a can of seafoam into the oil. Run it for a few mins, and then flush all the dirty oil out. Switching to a synthetic with a good detergent could also help, but keep in mind that you may also discover more leaks as the old gunk that may have been previously plugging up cracks in gaskets and seals is washed away.
