    89 325i

I have a 89 325i i just recently got it running :Dand my valves started making a clicking noise so i went and adjusted them to the specified gauge (.12) and i got everything back together in about an hour n a half and now they are making a louder clicking noise. anyone got any suggestions of what it could be? i was told it could be a valve guide? or do i need a brand new head?

Well number of things. What spacificaly work did you have to do to get it running and or the Prior Owner?

well i put a new engine wiring harness in it because it melted. then i have it wired up to a push button start cause it wont start with key. and i dont know what the previous owner did i just thought it was a steal for $750. but it didnt do this before i got it back up and going.

I have read that if you over tighten the valves when you adjust them they could get louder. Pull the valve cover and make sure they are at the correct tolerances.

so the nut might need loosened? would you happen to know the tolerance?

The correct adjustment for the valves is 0.010 cold. The 0.012 number is only used on a hot engine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
