    CEL After Valve Adjustment

Just adjusted my valves, and while commuting to work today the CEL came on.

The hose that's at the top of my valve cover just to the left of the intake manifold (it's like the charcoal hose?? haha) is sort of busted and falling apart. Could this be it?

I also thought since the valves were adjusted that perhaps the exhaust flow has been altered due to a shorter amount of time for the valves to be open, thus leading to a faulty O2 sensor? That's kind of far fetched.

Maybe it's just a random glitch, too.

    Any ideas?

    Best,

    Pete

You probably now have an intake leak at the valve cover breather. That is a formed hose, so you need the correct part, not generic hose.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Heh, that hose is actually stock. Your insight into this was helpful, though, as that sounds to be a plausible explanation for the CEL.

I taped it up for now, but I am ordering the hose today. Hopefully I don't have to remove the intake manifold to replace it.

remove the IM to replace it?
I just did this and it took like 5 minutes. no need to remove the IM. As far as your CEL is concerned have you done a stomp test to narrow it down?

On the way home from work, I tried the stomp test after pulling into a parking lot. The weird thing is: it doesn't work. I turn the key to "on", hit the gas a steady five times from WOT to cut, and the CEL just stares me in the face and doesn't blink.

It's rather odd as my old '88 would perform well in the stomp test.

              Tps

EDIT: by that I mean resistance test your TPS. If the "stomp" test wont work this is usually the culprit.

Hmm... I'll give it a shot.

Turns out the CEL went off last night. I guess it was just a fluke.
