It took me total of like 3-4 hours...I worked on it last night for 2-3 hours unhooking everything. and an hour today to drop it. Be careful. I dropped it thinking one good jack will hold it and it didnt. dropped a good foot onto the dolly. Goodthing I wasnt in the way. and Good thing the dolly didnt snap. Its cake if you know what to unhook!
Does anyone know if I can use a dual mass flywheel on the later Seta block? Reason Im asking is since I already did t he clutch job on my earlier eta I wanted to be able to just reuse my dual mass fllywheel and keep my less than 500 mile old clutch kit....
Yep man any flywheel will bolt to any block, since you'll be using I or super eta management it uses the front crank sensor not the bell housing ones so that's not a concern, that's the only reason a flywheel wouldn't be usable would be the crank sensor on an E
I just brought home the Super Eta Motor and took apart down to the block. Now this is my first time doing something this extensive and I wanna rebuild the bottom end. Im kind of lost on what I gotta do next... Is it:
Balance Pistons and Rods
Hone cylinders
Hot bath
Replace freeze plugs?
is that pretty much all I gotta do? Would it be cheaper to go and take the block apart and bring it to a machine shop individually? HELP!?
Subscribed. About to do the same thing myself (i head on to e motor with motronic 1.3 upgrade as too).
Other than the bottom end rebuild, what do you have planned? Do you know the condition of the rings? Are you replacing them?
Since you're pulling things apart, it's probably worth your while to at least do a new set of connecting rod bearings. Definitely time for a Bentley if you don't already have one.
I just got a quote for a hot tank and hone//deglaze the cylinder for $150. So ill be doing that and replacing the crank bearings as well. No other work after that. Just slap the 885 head that I picked up and let it go.
i would recomend that if your gonna do all that work you might as well spring for some piston rings, wouldnt wanna get all honeds and cleaned up only to burn a bunch of oil at startup cause now the rings dont seat as well in the bores that just got honed out. just saying for piece of mind, while you have it out and everything you might as well
Hot tanking the engine may not be a good idea. The intermediate shaft bearings (which are NLA I believe) can be destroyed by hot tanking. Just strip down the block and cleaning it manually.
Before honing the cylinders you need to gage the bores and see if they are still in tolerance. If they are, proceed with honing. If not the cylinders need to be bored and oversize pistons fitted. In a like manner, the crank journals need to be gaged. If not excessively worn or grooved the crank needs to be polished and the appropriate bearings used (several sizes are available).
