I bought my '88 seta last year. I runs pretty strong but sometimes i get pinging in the 2500-3000 rpm range under load. I checked the ecu and somebody swapped it to a 173 from an i engine. This explains the pinging as the timing curve/fuel maps are different. Running 91 octane does help. I decided to get the an original ecu (154) and see how it worked. Long story short the motor runs perfectly, no pinging. The problem is the motor now feels way sluggish. The stock timing advance on the 154 sucks! I'm going to put the 173 back in but was thinking about switching the fuel pressure regulator from 2.5 bar to the 3.0 bar of the i. This will hopefully get me a little more fuel to the engine thus eliminating the pinging. My last spark plug change showed whitish plugs which would indicate lean mixture so I think this would help. Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be appreciated.
