No start, neutral safety switch.... I think

First off I'll admit to being a newb, not only to R3V but E30's as well. But either way here's my issue. I'm the proud owner of a 1990 automatic 325i vert, it used to start with no issues. Progressed into starting with some jiggling of the shifter, later on I had to start pushing hard on the shifter at strange angles for it to start. One day it just quit trying, and due to lack of free time it sat for awhile. Now that I have some more time and my patience has replenished I'd love to have this car moving on its own again. First off I replaced the battery, turned the key to the start position and nothing happened, turned the key back off and the 4 ways came on(no idea what this means). And that's all I've accomplished so far. Through a little reading I've come to think it may be the neutral safety switch, I scanned around looking for a write up to bypass it but not one I've seen so far has the same color wires that mine does. Any insight, tips, tricks, or advice would greatly appreciated. I'm thoroughly stuck and in all honesty I'm not even sure if the switch is the issue. Thanks in advance.

to bypass the switch you need to find the starter kill relay, it is inside the car as far forward you can get under the dash, left side, there will be about 4 wires going to it. 2 of these wires are the sterter wires (black and black/yellow) cut them off the relay plug and butt them together. Now your car will start in gear so be careful

Thanks for the assist. As it turns out it was a combination of a Viper 300 security system and a bad starter. Poor diagnosis on my part but it does start again. Thanks again for the help.
