    Clutch Question

So I'm in the middle of a transmission swap and after removing the old junker, I found bits of metal shavings and a broken metal tab from somewhere sitting in my bell housing. The clutch pressure plate is all sorts of dinged up but from what I can see, doesn't seem too bad.

The friction disc, however, is looking mighty worn. A friend of mine has a like-new clutch from an m50 car, so my question is if this will work with my m20. I know that the diameter is the same on both (thanks realoem.com) but is there anything else that won't match up? Again, I have an m20 with a getrag 260 trans and the clutch is out of an E36 m50 car

By the reasoning that m50 guys use m20 clutch and flywheels, this should work fine, right?

Do both of the clutches have springs in the friction plate? Dual mass flywheel friction plates are unsprung and you don't want to mix/match. Sounds like things were a little torn up in there (tab floating around and what not). If budget allows it, it's probably worthwhile to just get a whole clutch kit (I'm still running on a $140 one from ebay) to do the throwout bearing, pilot bearing and pressure plate too.

Since you're in the neighborhood, you may want to consider replacing the selector rod and input shaft seals on your transmission. It would be an additional $6 and 20 minutes to replace things that are pretty much guaranteed to leak at some point...then at that point since your shifter is off you may as well replace the $20 in bushings that cause these to have sloppy shifting...(and so the sickness grows)...

Thanks for the tip! Fortunately, the new trans that I'm outting in has both new seals, new shifter bushings, and a new throwout bearing.
