    I'm an idiot

    hey,

I got a thermostat from ebay, its cost $20 or 1/6 of the cost from Repco. The thermostat came with the housing gasket and o-ring and the best part is that it all works. The only problem is that there is no markings to show what side should stick out into the housing. Does the thermostat open into the thermostat housing or does it open into the motor?

Any help would be gret. Pics would be even better

The thermostat opens into the thermostat housing (engine side). The "pointed" end faces out.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Don't forget to put that little bleed hole at the top. And $120? Really? If this is an M20, I paid $11 in town. Some good things about being stateside I guess.

I think he said only 20 bucks?
Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
              Mark: "You never will."

That made me think he meant Repco has them at $120. Maybe I read it wrong and repco is 1/6th of 20. $3.33?

I live in a small mining town. So the only car shop in town rips everyone off. Repco wanted $120 for a thermostat plus $30 for the oring and $10 for the housing gasket.

                  I hate Repco

Have them check the price on a water pump gasket for a 74 Beetle

The only cheep bmw parts come from ebay in australia. Some e30 parts are the same as the local holden stuff, most places down under will add 200% just because I say BMW. oh and a e30 325is sell for over $10,000

But I love my BMWS and its still worth killing a 5.7 V8 with my e34 m5.

Remember bmw v8 (e39 M5) puts out 65% more power and talk then the LS1 and a bmw can turn
