    question about valve clearance

    Recently adjusted valves. I used 3 feeler gages. .009, .010 and .011.
Checked 3 times. .009 goes easy on all 12 valves, .010 goes with friction. .011 does not go at all. 200000 mile car. Runs good. My only concern that at 2500 rpm and up valve train sounds like a bag with glass bottles being
shaken. Kind of rough sound. Should I use finer metric gages (.0095, .0100, .0105) or they all that loud?
    thank you.

You have the valve lash correctly set. Thus the noise is from something else. Use a stethoscope and see if the noise is truly from the valves or from someplace else. If it is from the valves the cam journals/bearings could be worn or the valve guides could be worn. In which case the head will have to come off and be torn down to find the cause of the noise.

It isn't unusual for the valves to make noise when the engine is cold. But when correctly adjusted they should not make noise once the engine is up to temperature.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
