    Help

I'm planning to pull the oil pan off my m20 to get a crack welded up over the weekend.

The bently manual says to remove the bellhousing reinforcement bolts (8) before removing the oil pan retaining bolts and pull the oil pump with the pan.

Can I just undo the oil pan retaining bolts and pull the pan? Does the pump have to come out or can I leave the pump alone.

The bellhousing reinforcement bolts, Do they hold the oil pump in place or is it part of the oil pan?
Is there anything I should be do to protect the exposed, (it will be with the welder for about half a day)
Other then the oil pan gasket will I need any other items, Like new bolts, filters etc.

Is there any other jobs or things I should be checking

    Thanks Josh

you have to remove the cover to get to the rest of the oil pan bolts. you have to remove the pump to get the pan off without basically removing the engine, you also have to unbolt the motor mounts and lift up the engine some, oh yea, remove the hood too.

    hope this helps

If you support the engine from the top and drop the subframe the pump can remain mounted to the engine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The best way is a engine brace. Which is a bar that fits across the engine bay and supports the weight of the engine. As mentioned, you can use a hoist but its feet are in the way for work under the car.
