Needing some help with my eta

    So... the background. I have a bone stock 87 325es 5spd.

    Issue:
When the car is under stress, like heavy accelerating (like merging on to the highway) or even when I'm going up a big hill. The car surges, not like a huge amount and I didn't even notice it till I got use to the car.

My dad and I are thinking a fuel filter, atleast as a starting point. We don't think the fuel pump bc that is usually something that just stops one day (had one go out on a 99 Jetta I use to have).

My dad has worked on tons of stuff but its mainly domestic stuff (he works for Ford as a mechanic) and doesn't know to much about these older bimmers. Thats why I figured I would ask and see what you guys think.

If you need anymore info just let me know, thanks.

Fuel filter's definitely a start. The part's so cheap, why wouldn't you replace it for good maintenance?

My car was acting similar to yours when the fuel pump was on it's last leg.

If the filter doesn't fix the problem, you might look into plugs, wires, cap & rotor, in order of hassle to access.
