    Oil in Intake

Yesterday i took my air box off to clean my MAF sensor and i noticed there was oil in my intake boot going up to the butterfly valve. I opened the valve up and the inside of my intake plenum is pretty dirty also. I did a search and couldnt find anything that explains why i would be getting oil in my intake. If someone has any answer that would be awesome.

    Thanks ,Dan

Oil gets into the intake from the breather hose that connects to the valve cover and can be pulled in from the intake valves. When the engine is new and tight very little oil vapor gets pulled in. But with wear blowby past the rings increases as does oil leaking past the valve seals, which increases the amount of oil that reaches the intake.

Thanks for taking the time to explain jlevie. Is this something that I should be concerned about and will it potentially effect the performance of my car in any way?

Whether to concerned or not is largely determined by the mileage on the engine. A lot of oil in the intake on a low mileage engine (less than 60k) would be something to be concerned about. High mileage engines, not so much.
