help -- just changed a ton of parts and the car now doesnt have power to the coil.

I have my friend's 1985 325E that we just did:

1.) single mass ES flyhweel and new sachs clutch, tob, etc to
    2.) new timing belt
    3.) new sway bars
    4.) some other stuff

the car, when we crank it it smells of gas (no exhaust at the moment) so I checked the spark. none.

checked the voltage between the + and - posts on the coil. 0.

    any ideas?

I am assuming this is the DME having a sensor issue or something like that

    any suggestions helpful.

That is the wrong way to check for coil power and will lead to confusing results. Check for coil power between +12 and chassis ground.

Are you sure that you used a flywheel that is compatible with this car? Specifically did the flywheel have the timing slugs on it like the one you took out? If the timing slugs weren't on the flywheel you aren't going to get the engine to start. If the flywheel is the correct one, check to see if you swapped the cylinder ID and CPS connections.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

should I have coil voltage when the key is in 'on' or is it only in starting.

the flywheel is out of a 1986 325ES, it has the bump like the old 85' dual mass. I am assuming they are the same as far as reference sensors would know.

the two sensors, they aren't swappable are they? I asked my friend to try switching them and he said that it wouldnt fit the other way -- was he mistaken?

whats the sensor on the front that reads the harmonic balancer?

well, before checking the coil again, I swapped the reference sensors on the flywheel. runs like a champion. open headers are LOUD AS FUCK!

        thanks guys.
