    erratic idleing and sputtering

so i have a 90 325i just did timing belt water pump thermostat and sensors. now the idle just jumps its not even drivable. when i try to drive it sputters as if it doesn't want to go. i drove it like that to try and get it to my house and i smell something burning so i pull over and i see all kinds of white smoke coming from the cat, exhaust and engine bay. car temperature says it wasn't overheated but i could see the heat coming from the cat. i think i may have water in my cylinder head but haven't ran a test to make sure. any ideas?

How hard was it to start the car right after all the work? Did you check the oil to see any sign of milkshake(water in oil)?

well tht problem is fixed..new cap and rotor spark wires and a coil.
now when the car sits it overheats but when i drive the car water temp is perfect until i come to a stop.

this might be old news but make sure your fan shroud is ziptied in the bottom center hole it can stop the fan from spinning if the cluth is out, if temp rise at idle your t-stat might be stuck open, also jack up the front of the car or park on an inclinre and purge your air screw ontop of the t stat
